Inspiration: Nurse practitioner led general practice
Organisations: Ealing CCG, Cuckoo Lane Surgery
Cuckoo Lane Health Centre in Ealing, is a nurse practitioner-led practice, which has been running for nine years and covers a population of 4,500. It is a mutual participation model employing practice nurses, nurse practitioners and GPs.
Cuckoo Lane practice is comparable to other practices when using measures such as the Quality and Outcomes Framework, feedback from patient surveys and patient participation groups.
It is a nurse training practice with several nurses able to mentor pre-registration and post-reg nurses new to general practice. It is also piloting the Care Certificate for HCA’s in General practice and employs an apprentice.
Clinical safety and governance are at the heart of our work and several innovative processes and practices have been adopted for this reason.
Several nurses are also leaders in the wider Ealing Nurse community and sit on the CCG Board, the Federation Board and run the Practice Nurse Forum.
